Partnerships
RTLit work in partnership with others, networking to provide seamless transitions, integrated support and positive outcomes for students, whānau and teachers.
WhĀnau
We respect and value the knowledge and experiences expressed by families when shaping the support we offer. Establishing positive relationships and actively engaging whānau in the support process leads us to make the most successful impact on student learning.
Learning assistants
Learning assistants add an extra layer of support to teachers and students in classrooms. RTLit often provide ideas, resources and activities to aid the targeting of the literacy needs of the ākonga they support.
reading Recovery teachers
Reading Recovery Teachers can refer students on to the RTLit Service if they feel that further intervention is required at the time students are discontinued.
SENCO
The Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) within each school is often the school leader who refers students to our service. They are an important point of contact for RTLit and act as liaison between all stakeholders.
learning support coordinators
Learning Support Coordinators (LSC) refer students to the Resource Teacher: Literacy Service. We often communicate with LSC in regard to our shared students and their literacy learning. They help to ensure the system of support runs smoothly.
Speech language Therapists
As some students with literacy difficulties also have speech difficulties and/or language delays, RTLit may communicate with Speech Language Therapists (SLT).
Classroom teachers
RTLit work alongside kaiako to support students in ways that best suit their needs. This may be directly with ākonga or indirectly in collaboration with other professionals. We work together sharing expertise and knowledge of the learner to build capabilities and raise student achievement in reading, writing, and oral language.
rtlb
Resource Teachers: Learning and Behaviour (RTLB) have a similar role to RTLit. By looking through a different lens we can each provide an intervention to effectively target barriers to learning.
Ministry of education
RTLit are funded by the Ministry of Education (MoE). We collect achievement data which is shared with the MoE so that they can understand and monitor our service. Representatives from the MoE may facilitate or participate in our professional learning.
